A lot has already been written about how the southern US was so badly affected by what seems like such a little bit of snow. They may not have gotten much snow, but holy shit, look at the ice on these roads.
No idea what's going on here, but again, look at how thick the ice is on the street.

That's what my high school parking lot has looked like for the last month. Surprisingly there have been no major accidents but there have been quite a few spin outs and sub 5mph collisions.

Traffic was awful in Atlanta when I went there for the final four, I can almost comprehend how its managed to escalate to this level of insanity.

The warning flare (I'm assuming that's what that is) is a nice touch.
edit: Nevermind. Upon further review, I think that's just a reflection of the squad car's lights.

Actually, I think that's a reflection of the blue side LED on the cop car.

I actually just dealt with similar conditions a couple hours ago. Went to the grocery store for a few things, when I went in it was windy and raining when I came out it as a freaking blizzard and every wet surface had already frozen. I'm glad it was only about a 2 mile drive but I still about lost it on the downhill to my house idling in 1st in FWD... Probably at about 8 mph.
Morale of the story, sometimes conditions go straight to Hell and there ain't shit you can do about it...
BTW, I live in the Snow Belt and have my whole life.

A friend told me he saw a video of a BMW that caught fire after the driver blew a tire that got so hot from spinning...tire punched a hole in the fuel tank and roasty ensued...I haven't been able to find that video yet...

I had left work around 1:30 pm on Tuesday with 134 miles to empty in my 2011 f350, I had a soda and had just eaten lunch. I didn't arrive home until 6 AM on Wednesday morning. Schools and goverment offices should have been closed, there was so much volume on the interstates the salt trucks couldn't do their job. Another issue was the fact that there were very few people helping each other out. I think I stopped and helped around 20-30 people just to get moving again. There was about 1/2"-1" solid ice on the interstates and thousands of people trying to get home. By the time I hit 285 around 2 am it was a wasteland. Cars ditched 3 deep on the side of the road, semis stopped in the middle of the interstate, I made it to a diesel QT around 5:15 am with 20 miles to empty and took back roads all the way back home after that.
